St. Nicholas Montessori Society of Ireland are delighted and honoured to announce a concert date re-welcoming flagship acappella vocal ensemble ANÚNA on Sat 8th February 2020 to the beautiful surrounds of Christ Church Dun Laoghaire. Having released seventeen albums since their formation in 1987, ANÚNA have gone to become to one of the most respected names on the Irish cultural landscape, representing the beauty of Irish musical heritage and literature all over the world for thirty years.

The ensemble was originally founded by Irish composer Michael McGlynn in an effort to create a physical voice for his compositions, many of which are strongly influenced by the history and mythology of his native Ireland, a country which has a long and sophisticated history of traditional singing or sean nós. McGlynn uses this tradition as the basis for many of his arrangements and compositions. Within these songs are universal truths told through the landscape, the philosophy and the mythology of Ireland and beyond.

ANÚNA’s numerous accolades, international awards and nominations include the Classical Brit Awards, National Entertainment Award for Classical Music, a #1 selling album on the US World Music Charts, Hot 100 positioning on the US Billboard Album Charts, an award-winning PBS show and DVD, and featured artist contributions to three Grammy award-winning albums.

St Nicholas Montessori Society Ireland was founded in 1970 by Sighle Fitzgerald and a group of like-minded educators. Since then the Society has gone on to become Ireland’s leading provider of, and exponent of, Montessori Education. Education is delivered both through the St. Nicholas Montessori College, which educates graduate level Montessori teachers and Early Years professionals who work throughout the national school system and early years sector in Ireland, and through the St. Nicholas Montessori School, which teaches primary aged school children using the Montessori Method to over 130 children.

2020 marks a particularly special year for the Society which will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary throughout the year with a series of educational / development and fundraising events. This follow-up concert to ANÚNA’s hugely successful 2019 concert at Christ Church Dun Laoghaire is being run as part of those 50th Anniversary celebrations and in support of the Society’s 2025 Development Strategy. The 2025 Strategy aims to build on the Society’s first 50 years to develop a national Centre of Excellence in Montessori Education, based in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, providing early years, primary, secondary, third-level and post-graduate education. The strategy also involves widening access to primary Montessori education by securing patronage of one or more new national primary schools as they come on stream.
