Earn and Learn Initiative for School Leavers

Griffith College has launched an Earn and Learn initiative, working with employers such as the Central Bank of Ireland to offer school leavers the opportunity to enter the workforce and study part-time.

This initiative piloted last year by Griffith and the Central Bank saw school leavers commence work with the company while enrolling in a QQI accredited part-time course at the national institution. This part-time study requires students to be on campus one evening a week while simultaneously earning a wage from the employer. Interested students are reviewed, interviewed and approved by a panel from Griffith College.

Griffith College Supports DEIS schools with Bursary Initiatives

Griffith College has partnered with the Institute of Advertising Practitioners Ireland (IAPI) to launch a €10,000 Creative Bursary for DEIS schools across Ireland. This bursary is intended to increase the students interest in creative subjects. Paired with the monetary bursary, successful applicants will benefit from experiential learnings from IAPI’s member agencies, such as workshops and training. Interested schools have been asked to submit a project rebranding the school.

This is Griffith’s second DEIS sponsored bursary following a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) bursary worth €10,000 which benefitted 5 schools in Dublin and Cork, in partnership with CPL. St. John’s De La Salle, Ballyfermot was presented with a €5,000 cheque from the President of Griffith College Prof. Diarmuid Hegarty. This bursary will be used to improve the STEAM related equipment in the school.

Spotlight on: Jaguar Land Rover Employee and Computing Graduate, Donal Byrne

Griffith College Computing Science graduate Donal Byrne forged a successful path following on from his studies at Griffith.

Speaking about his journey from education to employment, Donal said, “During college, my passion for software development and AI grew. By the time I reached my final year I knew that the only job I wanted was in AI and machine learning. Since leaving Griffith I have joined the AI & Algorithms team at Jaguar Land Rover. I learned a lot during my time at Griffith. During 3rd year students have the opportunity to take on an internship for the second semester. This experience was invaluable for me and taught me essential skills that played a big role in where I am now. If possible I would urge future students to start looking for internships early and take every opportunity they can.”

Award Winning Blended Learning Initiative
