DBS Claim Victory in the Inaugural HECA Cup 2023

In the stifling heat of Friday June 2nd, the first ever HECA Cup 2023 was contested at the Iveagh Grounds, Crumlin Road. Dublin Business School (DBS) emerged victorious, clinching the title in a close-fought match against the National College of Ireland (NCI). The colleges in attendance - DBS, Hibernia College, CCT College and NCI- put on a strong show in the group stages. Each match was contested over a 35-minute duration, leading up to a 45-minute final. DBS and NCI, seasoned in competitive college football, demonstrated their prowess throughout the day, however, Hibernia College and CCT College were very competitive on the day and put up a strong fight. 

In a nail-biting final, NCI and DBS were tied at 3-3 with just one minute left on the clock and it looked like it would be down to penalties, but DBS pulled a surprise winner, leading to a 4-3 final score.

The tournament offered a fitting end to the academic year whilst nurturing connections between students from different colleges across the independent higher education sector. All in all, it was a great fun day with some excellent nourishment from ‘Feed Food Catering' and the most beautiful weather and fantastic football with individual awards presented for the Tournament Top Goal scorer went to Manny from NCI, Best Goalkeeper-Ade Benjamin from DBS, and Player of the Tournament, Nathan Bell also from DBS.

Finally, congratulations to DBS on their well-earned win, marking a thrilling conclusion to this academic year and setting the scene for what is sure to be an eagerly awaited tournament in 2024.
