Dr Siobhan Marie Doyle

St Nicholas Montessori College of Ireland

Research Interest

Dr Siobhan Marie Doyle is a full faculty member in St Nicholas Montessori College of Ireland, and a teaching fellow in University College Dublin. She is an active participant in the P4C programme in UCD, which is designed to introduce philosophy to children. She has also co-coordinated the Irish Young Philosopher Awards since its inauguration in 2018. Her main research interests are focused on the philosophy of Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) and Plotinus (204/5-270 C.E.). Other areas of research include the philosophy of education, philosophy of religion, moral philosophy, and ancient philosophy.

Dr. Marcella Finnerty

Research Profile: 

Marcella is a graduate of, and former lecturer at Trinity College Dublin.  She holds a Doctorate in Psychotherapy from the Metanoia Institute and Middlesex University. Her research focused on integration and pluralism in psychotherapy. She is College President in IICP, and is involved in all aspects of research in the College.  She is a founding member of both IICP College and The Village Counselling Service (VCS) and currently serves as a Director on both Boards of Directors. Marcella also holds an M.Sc. in Educational Guidance and Counselling, an M.A., a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision (Psychology), a Teaching and Learning Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Higher Ed), and a B.A. (Hons) Psychology. Marcella has trained and worked extensively as liaison with the British Deming Association for Quality Management.  She is an IACP accredited therapist and supervisor and holds the European Certificate of Psychotherapy.  She is an Advanced Instructor with the William Glasser Institute. She was Joint Deputy Director of the M.Ed. and M.Sc. Degree programmes in Educational Guidance and Counselling in Trinity College Dublin. She is a member of IACP, IAHIP, WGII, IGC, ICP, EART and APA. 

Marcella was the 2001 recipient of the Daniel Murphy Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in postgraduate studies from Trinity College, Dublin, School of Education; the 2014 recipient of the Carl Berkeley Memorial Award from the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) for making an outstanding contribution to the development of the counselling profession in Ireland, and the Derek Portwood Award for her doctoral research, which was considered as having made a significant professional impact within the profession, from the Metanoia Institute in 2015.

Professor John McLeod

Research Profile

John McLeod is Emeritus Professor of Counselling at the University of Abertay Dundee and Professor of Counselling and Psychotherapy, IICP College, Dublin, and has previously held Visiting Professor positions at the University of Oslo, University of Padua, and Massey University. A central theme within his career has been the promotion of research as a means of informing therapy practice and improving the quality of services that are available to clients. His enthusiastic quest for finding ways to make research interesting, relevant and accessible for practitioners has resulted in a teaching award for exceptional contribution to research from the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. His writing has influenced a generation of trainees in the field of counselling and psychotherapy, and his books are widely adopted on training programmes across the world.

Professor O’Rourke is a lecturer at Trinity College Dublin and at the Institute of Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, IICP, on the B.A. (Hons) Degree Programme in Counselling and Psychotherapy and the M.A. Degree in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy.

He was Director of the M.Ed Degree in Educational Guidance and Counselling in the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin, from 1992-2012, Professor O’Rourke is currently Academic Consultant and Senior Lecturer at The Military College, The Curragh, from 2005-to-date and is the External Examiner in Strathclyde University. Caitríona holds an MA in Pluralistic Counselling & Psychotherapy, P.G. Cert, Training & Education, B.Sc. Counselling and Psychotherapy, Dip. Addiction Studies, MIACP, MWGII. She is Vice President & Registrar at IICP, and has taught across all stages of the programmes.. She is the co-author of the Radcliffe book, Adolescents and Substance Use: The Handbook for Professionals Working with Young People, which was shortlisted and Highly Commended in the Paediatric category for the 2014 British Medical Association Book of the Year Awards.

Dr. Marguerite Woods

Marguerite holds a PhD, Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy and a B.Soc.Sc.  Dr. Woods has a wealth of teaching experience, lecturing in colleges such as IICP, Trinity College Dublin, National University of Ireland Maynooth and Dublin Business School.

Her research and teaching interests include:

  • Qualitative research focusing on the lived experience of those who use drugs or those in treatment.
  • Gender Issues – I have an interest in women and health issues generally but more specifically my focus has been on women and drug use, and women and HIV;
  • Alcohol and drug treatment and policy – I am specifically interested in focusing on how policy impacts on drug users;
  • Counselling Practice;
  • Practice based research – focusing on how learning translates into practice;
  • Drug using parents – their experience of parenting;
  • Women drug users’ experience of motherhood;
  • Qualitative and quantitative research methods;
  • Crime and social policy;
  • Housing issues; and
  • Educational Disadvantage.

Dr. Eve Watson

Research Profile

Eve Watson (Ph.D., MICP, RegPract. APPI) is a psychoanalytic practitioner, clinical supervisor and academic. She is involved in teaching and training in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy and teacher education and specialises in teaching sexuality studies at postgraduate and undergraduate levels. She is currently teaching in the areas of psychology and sociology in education; sexuality and the social world; sexuality for psychotherapy training.

She writes on psychoanalysis, sexuality studies, poetics, film and critical theory. Her recent book (w/Dr. Noreen Giffney) is Clinical Encounters in Sexuality: Psychoanalytic Practice and Queer Theory (Punctum Books, 2017). She has a book chapter on children and transsexuality in Lacanian Psychoanalysis with Babies, Children and Adolescents (Karnac, 2017) and forthcoming on female sexuality in Lacan’s Ecrits: A Reader’s Guide, Vol. 2 (Routledge, 2018). She is widely published in Irish and international journals and conference proceedings and annually speaks at conferences and public events in Ireland, Europe, the U.S.A. and Canada. She is currently the editor of Lacunae, the APPI International Journal for Psychoanalysis, a peer-reviewed journal. 

Eve has been invited to accept the prestigious award and become the 2021 Erikson Austin-Riggs Scholar-in-Residence at the Austen-Riggs Center in Stockbridge, Massachusetts where she will interface with patients and the clinical team while pursuing her own research and book.  As the first Irish person to receive this honour, the residency will afford Eve an opportunity to support links between Dublin and Austen-Riggs.
