Support, Success and Strategy: Three Institutional Journeys into Implementing Learning Analytics Policies and Practices for Student Success

This collaboration between Hibernia College, Griffith College and Dublin Business School is part of the National Forum for Teaching & Learning Seminar Series 2019-20. It will showcase three different institutional journeys into learning analytics implementation for student success.

The seminar will be of interest to staff from all higher-education institutions who are interested in exploring the use of learning analytics to enhance student experience – particularly those in the early stages of this journey.

The seminar will take place at Griffith College in Dublin 8, in room AF103. Onsite places are limited but the seminar will also be livestreamed on the web via Ubicast, so participants have a choice in how they wish to attend. Participants are encouraged to bring a phone, tablet or laptop to enable full participation.

Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

Demonstrate understanding of the benefits, challenges and broader debates around the use of learning analytics for student success in higher education
Recognise the potential of pooling and sharing knowledge across institutions when building learning analytics policies and capacities
Critically evaluate the frameworks, processes and implementations presented
Apply these insights to their own professional education context

Presenters and topics:
Dr Lee Richardson & Sarah Sharkey (DBS): Personal reflections on the use of learning analytics for student success
Greg O'Brien & James Howley (Griffith College): Beyond learning analytics
Ruth Ní Bheoláin & Irene O'Dowd (Hibernia College): Create the learning analytics policy you (and your students) need
